 | Sailboat Racing at Hudson Yacht Club
PHRF Fleet: Wednesday nights and one Saturday a month.
This is the fleet for the more serious racers. Racing in this fleet requires that your boat be in good repair, that your crew be reasonably experienced and that you're prepared to be more aggressive with a working knowledge of the Rules of Racing.
This is spine-tingling sailing, where reaction time and endurance are important. This fleet competes on a handicap basis whereby slower boats have a 'per hour time' allowance, or 'time correction' factor, which allows them to sail competively with the fastest boats.
Racing starts at 19:00 hours on Wednesday nights, and 11:00 hours on Saturday.
WHITE SAIL FLEET: Tuesday nights.
This has proven to be a popular fleet. The 10 to 15 boats that go out to sail on Tuesday nights know that they'll be racing, but in a relaxed manner. No spinnakers, no need for ‘rock stars' on your crew, minimum of contact- you just go out and sail the course. If you'd like to try racing, but are inexperienced and a little nervous, this is the way to go. It doesn't matter what kind of boat you have. Just show up and Learn!
Racing starts at 19:00, be prepared to leave the dock by 18:00 hours.
Dinghy Fleet: 2nd Saturday of each month.
The dinghy fleet is composed of Lasers, Bytes, Laser II's and 420's. These are good learning fleets, although they can be pretty competitive. These centerboards are probably the greatest small boats in which to learn about sailing, since everything you do is important – weight placement, sail controls, physical condition. All contribute to how fast you can sail the boat. These fleets participate in the overall HYC sailing program. Season champions in the dinghy fleet are eligible for and have won the Club Championship.
Racing starts at 11:00, be prepared to leave the dock by 10:00 hours.
SOLING 1 METER FLEET: Sunday afternoons & Tuesday nights.
Soling Rc Sailing Instructions 2008
The Soling 1 meter radio controlled sailboat is a one design boat, each built as close as possible to the specific design.
These boats are sailed just like any full size competitive sail boat. All of the tactics, sail and rigging adjustments and settings apply just as they apply to full size boats. They handle extremely well in most winds.
Being sailed on a small course directly in front of the yacht club, Soling 1 meter sailing is great for spectators, as they can see everything happening over the entire course.
Tuesday night races starts are at 18:00 hours off the T-Pier.
We generally run six races. Tuesday night races do not count towards the HYC Soling 1 meter Championship. Guest skippers are encouraged to join us for a fun evening.
Sunday races start at 13:00 hours off the T-Pier.
The Sunday series builds towards the HYC Soling 1 meter Championship.
RACE COMMITTEE
Race Committee is an extremely important part of making racing SAFE, FAIR, and FUN. It's also a great way to learn more about racing and improving your own understanding of the course, signals, starts and scoring. In the tradition of HYC, we ask that all boats that race regularly provide one Race Committee during the year. Click on the links below for a set of helpful tips and guidelines, as well as the latest assignment of race committees.
